You’ve set up a Facebook page for your business. You’re hoping to harness the power of social media and it’s marketing opportunities. Unfortunately many people think that just setting up a page, making some fun and interesting posts will do the trick. But the #1 thing that you need to remember so that you don’t fall into a trap is, as page admin there is a responsibility of running a Facebook page!

You are responsible for your pages content!

Making sure it’s suitable, relevant and won’t reflect badly on your business. This includes (but is not limited to) paying attention to current events. You may have planned your posts in advance. It might seem completely suitable, but things happen in the world. If there’s any way your content could be seen as offensive during a tragedy or other current event, HOLD IT BACK! There will be no problem posting it at a more appropriate time.

Another main responsibility you have as a page admin is to make sure you follow Facebook’s rules!

I cannot tell you the number of times I’ve seen page admins that truly have no idea that Facebook has any rules. Running a contest or promotion? You can’t just do so any old way. That doesn’t mean it’s a bad idea and you need to forget about it. Contests, sweepstakes and promos can be great ways to engage with your fans. There are plenty of ways to do so within the guidelines and rules.

Another mistake made is in not realizing there are rules pertaining to your timeline cover photos.

The 20% text rule is often broken. It’s important to keep your timeline cover in compliance because it’d be a shame to be running a page, gaining traction and then have it shut down with no notice.  It’d just be crazy to have something like that happen, when all it takes is a little knowledge to avoid it.

You’re here reading this article, so I know you care about your page’s SUCCESS!

Being an admin really does come with some responsibility. We also know that not everyone has the time to keep up with all of this. Or you might be uncertain of whether your page is within the rules. Now it’s your turn: What do you think the biggest responsibilities of managing a Facebook page are? What should I add to the list?
